据2008年12月9日澳洲新闻联社报道，针对近期悉尼频繁发生枪击案件，新州州长Nathan Rees表示，如果证明必要，他准备修改现有枪支法，收紧拥有枪支的相关措施。
全 国枪支控制联盟NCGC（The National Coalition for Gun Control）表示，新州现有的枪支法允许年满12岁者即可拥有半自动手枪或自动上膛猎枪，而新州年满17岁才能驾车，年满18岁才能购买香烟和酒品， 这项12岁就能合法使用半自动手枪的立法实在是太危险了，应当予以修改。
NSW Premier Nathan Rees says he's prepared to make changes to gun laws but only if it is proven that stricter measures are required.
