AUSTRALIANS face a new tax on electronic goods such as televisions and computers next year - in return for guarantees the electronic waste will not be dumped in landfill or shipped overseas.
据2009年5月24日《悉尼晨锋报》报道，从明年开始，澳洲计划开征电子垃圾回收税，以保证废旧电器、电脑等电子垃圾不会被偷运出境或进入填埋场。
联邦政府还考虑建立全国范围的有偿回收瓶罐激励制度，不过，目前尚无计划在全澳全面禁止免费提供购物塑料袋。
一项调查显示，大部分澳洲人支持在新电视机上征收$35澳元的回收税。
只要电子垃圾包括：
- Televisions电视机
- Computers, printers and IT peripherals电脑、打印机及IT外设
- Mobile Phones手提电话
- Fluorescent Lamps日光灯管
- VCRs, DVD players and stereo equipment录像机、DVD机和立体音响设备
- Kitchen appliances厨房设备
- Power tools电动工具
