墨尔本交通规划大动作

据2008年3月15日《The Age》头版头条报道，墨尔本交通拥堵问题由来已久，特别是上下班尖峰时刻，几条主干道更是车速如蛇行。为解决这一日益尖锐的矛盾，维州政府拟展开几项规划，由Sir Rod Eddington爵士牵头研究，提出建议。两项最大的工程包括：

■修建从西区Footscray，经Carlton、市中心和St Kilda Road到近城东南Caulfield的地铁线路；

■为缓和西门大桥的拥堵难题，建议修建连接83号Eastern Freeway和西部郊区的一条地下隧道，耗资高达$100亿元。其它建议还有：

■A possible new rapid transit link in the Werribee corridor.

■Electrification of train lines to Melton or Bacchus Marsh.

■Improving an existing proposal for upgraded bus services from the Doncaster region to the city.

■Greater priority for trams at intersections.
