Sources from the Redfern community said yesterday he had come to Sydney from Boggabilla, in northern NSW, about 10 months ago.

They said he had drifted through accommodation in the inner-city suburbs of Redfern and Waterloo.

Outside court the lawyer representing the victim's family, Daniel Sheen, said he expected her funeral to be held in Sydney before her ashes were returned to China with her mother.

"She lost her home, she lost her business - now she's lost her only child," Mr Sheen said.

Mr Sheen added he would seek to claim the $50,000 victims of crime compensation on behalf of the dead girl’s family.
